Babye Leto (Бабье лето) is a meteorological phenomenon that occurs
in
September in Russia (2 weeks since September 14). It is a period of warm,
sunny weather.
The term Babye Leto has been used for many centuries. It means Woman's
Summer but not Summer of old ladies! Many years ago women in
villages worked hard all the summer long. Only in September they may have a rest - a
small summer holiday. They said "The weather is good just for women".
In Europe and North America there is an analogue of
Babye Leto - 'Indian Summer'.
But it is later, in November, when the leaves have turned or fallen down. |
